The genus Ibotyporanga
was described 80 years ago, but until recently it
contained no more than five species. Based on recent focused collecting
in Brazil and northern Colombia, we describe 19 new
species, all based on males and females. In addition, we describe the
previously unknown females of two species described in 2003 from males only, present
comprehensive SEM data of eight species, use species distribution
modeling to evaluate the possible occurance of Ibotyporanga in some poorly
sampled regions of South America, and provide new karyotype data for
two species. ![]() Single most parsimonious cladogram of Ibotyporanga, resulting from analyses of morphological data. The tree suggests that the strongly elongated procursi of numerous species are derived. |
